Ellie Paul, MA, MLD

I am a clinical mental health counselor, but that's just my title. What I actually do is help people recognize their own potential and heal from past experiences and trauma. I am an empathic professional encourager who uses an integrated, personalized approach to help each client with their needs, even if they are unsure where to start. My pronouns are she/her/hers.

My background includes a Master’s in Leadership Studies, with an emphasis in adult education and communications (North Central College), and I completed my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University’s Family Institute. I also was fortunate to be actively seeing clients as OBCW's Clinical Mental Health Intern/Counselor-in-Training for my practicum and internship. I also volunteered and underwent training as a court-appointed special advocate/guardian ad litem.

As a primarily person-centered counselor, I also use all other forms of clinical interventions to create a treatment plan that makes sense from both evidence- and personality-based perspectives. While comfortable with all aspects of the human experience that life brings, I feel some of my strengths include work with life's transitions, including grief and loss, trauma and PTSD (especially in adolescents & young adults), as well as helping families—including optimal co-parenting skill training, and family systems work, and being part of the “sandwich generation”as caregivers and parents, among other areas of interest. Additionally, I enjoy working with individuals and couples in all stages of relationships. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally and work all folx toward empowerment, visibility, and improved communication.

I use a holistic approach to help my clients feel heard, seen, and reminded that all feelings matter and are valid, just as each client matters and is valid in this big, crazy world in which we live. Humor, warmth, and education are all hallmarks of my work, and I hope to have the opportunity to work with you!
